The water system in Independence tests negative for what the Environmental Protection Agency calls forever chemicals.
P-F-A-S are manufactured chemicals that have been used in industry and consumer products since the 1940s. They are often found in soil and water due to their widespread use. Independence City Engineer John Garris says the City has recently tested its water for the presence of the substances.
Garris says the results of the testing were very good.
The E-P-A says those who remain concerned about their water, even after testing, may install in-home water treatment filters that are certified to reduce the level of P-F-A-S in water.
