A federal prison inmate dies at the Leavenworth correctional facility.
The Federal Correctional Institution in Leavenworth has reported that an inmate at the facility passed away on Saturday night. According to prison authorities, 28-year-old Denix Heredia-Chang was discovered unresponsive in his cell around 7:15 on Friday evening. Staff attempted life-saving measures and emergency medical crews were called, but Chang was eventually pronounced dead. His cause of death has not been disclosed.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshal’s Service was notified of the death.
Chang had been housed at the Leavenworth facility since May 2024 on an indictment for an alleged sale of synthetic narcotics.
His death remains under investigation.
