A former Police Chief for the City of Burns, KS, is sentenced to 60 years in prison in a federal child pornography case.
39-year-old Joel Womochil was given the sentence last week after entering a guilty plea to charges of Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Exploitation of a Child and Production of Child Pornography. Court documents indicate that the crimes occurred between 1019 and 2021. At that time, Womochil was employed as a Marion County, KS, Sheriff’s Deputy. He later served as Police Chief in Burns, a small community about 20 miles north of El Dorado. He resigned from that position in August 2023.
Womochil was one of four people that faced federal charges in the case.
