K-H-P Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Kidnapping Suspect, Recovery of Victim

A recent traffic stop by a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper leads to the arrest of a kidnapping suspect.

According to the K-H-P, the trooper pulled over an SUV on a Kansas roadway for a traffic violation. The vehicle was occupied by two adult males – both appearing to be in their 60s – and a young female child. During the stop, the trooper discovered that the passenger in the vehicle had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in another state for the kidnapping of a 6-year-old girl. It was also discovered that the driver had a criminal history including homicide and weapons violations.

The trooper called in deputies from the local Sheriff's Office to assist on the stop. The two law enforcement officers then secured both men and removed the child from the vehicle. The young girl eventually revealed her real name to the officers and it was confirmed that she was the 6-year-old kidnapping victim. The girl had been on the run with the suspect for over a month. Both suspects were taken into custody and the girl was placed in protective care. The victim was unharmed in the incident.
