Two people in Commerce, OK, are charged in federal court in the death of a two-year-old child.
32-year-old Daniel Ash and 30-year-old Amber Murphy have each been indicted by a Grand Jury for Second-Degree Murder in Indian Country and four counts of Child Neglect in Indian Country. Ash also faces an additional charge of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor Under 12 Years Old in Indian Country.
Both suspects were arrested last September after a two-year-old child was found deceased at a Commerce residence. There were a total of five children under the supervision of the couple at the time of the child's death. It remains unclear if either defendant is the biological parent of the deceased child.
Murphy and the victim are both identified as being citizens of or eligible for citizenship in the Cherokee Nation.
The case is being investigated by the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
