Burn Ban Remains in Effect for Montgomery, Labette Counties

Due to continued high winds, warm temperatures, and low humidity, county-wide burn bans remain in effect for both Montgomery and Labette Counties.

The Montgomery County Commission issued a 3-day burn ban on Monday. County Emergency Management Director Rick Whitson says the weather continues to be an issue.

The County Commission will revisit the ban at next Monday's meeting. The 3-day ban was issued and Commission Chair Mike Cordray will be able to either extend or cancel the ban in the event that conditions change before next week. Commissioner Robert Bever says the ban applies to all of Montgomery County.

The ban applies to all outdoor burning including trash burns, agricultural burns, and recreational fires such as campfires and bonfires. Residents are urged to use caution and be vigilant against causing accidental fires.

The burn ban for Labette County will remain in effect until Monday, March 24.
