A Columbus home is a total loss after an early morning fire.
Emergency crews received the call of a structure fire around 3:30 this morning. When crews arrived on the scene they found a two-story home fully engulfed in flames. High winds were pushing the flames toward a neighboring home, so crews went to work in an effort to save that home. Firefighters were able to keep nearby structures from harm, but the primary home involved in the fire was a total loss. However, all occupants were able to escape safely from the house and no injuries were reported.
The Columbus Fire Department was assisted on the call by the Baxter Springs and Scammon Fire Departments as well as Columbus Police, Cherokee County EMS and Columbus Public Works.
