The City of Independence is expected to vote to begin the demolition of condemned structures around the city.
At tonight's Independence City Commission meeting, a vote is expected to award a demolition contract for the destruction of twenty-one structures across the city that have been deemed unsafe. The City has been in the process of determining which abandoned and unsafe homes in the city should be demolished for nearly a year. Three structures on the original list of 24 houses will be saved from demolition after the homeowners agreed to make improvements to the properties. The contract for the demolition is expected to be awarded to G & G Dozer of Caney for just over $107,000.
Commissioners are also expected to approve a request from Friends of Riverside Park and Zoo to paint a mural of Logan fountain on the wall of the stadium in memory of Mark Johnson. Funding for the project would be paid for by FORPAZ.
Tonight's meeting begins at 5:30 in the Commission Room at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and is also available for viewing via the City's website.
