Former TX Megachurch Pastor Indicted in OK for Lewd Acts with a Child

The former pastor of a suburban Dallas megachurch is indicted in Oklahoma for lewd acts with a child.

63-year-old Robert Preston Morris was indicted by a multi-county grand jury in Oklahoma for lewd acts with a child stemming from incidents that date back to the 1980s. The charges date back to December 1982 when Morris was a traveling evangelist visiting the City of Hominy, OK. He was visiting the home of the alleged victim, who was 12 years old at the time. The indictment alleges Morris’ sexual misconduct began that Christmas and continued over the next four years. In all, Morris faces five counts of lewd or indecent acts to a child. The statute of limitations does not apply in this case because Morris was not a resident or inhabitant of Oklahoma at any time.

Morris resigned as pastor of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, last summer. The church is among the largest in the United States.
