Extreme Fire Danger Tomorrow

Potentially catastrophic fire weather conditions are on the way tomorrow.

The latest from the National Weather Service indicates extremely high grassland fire spread rates are expected tomorrow, especially for southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and above-normal temperatures will result in extreme fire danger late tomorrow morning through evening, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Confidence is growing that wind gusts exceeding 60 mph at times will be possible in Kansas and Oklahoma. Any fire that develops will be very difficult or impossible to contain.

A red flag warning will be in place tomorrow for northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas, and a high wind watch and fire weather watch is in place for the entire four-state region. Some county and local governments have issued burn bans, but anyone within the area is advised to take precautions on anything that could cause a spark.
