Residents and visitors to Fort Scott will soon be able to enjoy collegiate summer baseball as the city becomes the newest franchise in the Mid-America League's circuit.
City officials announced on Tuesday that the Fort Scott franchise will play its first season in the summer of 2026. Games will be played at the LaRoche Baseball Complex, a facility that has a capacity for 3,500 fans. The as-of-yet unnamed Fort Scott team will join teams from Joplin and Fort Smith plus Texas teams from Piney Woods, Sherman, Abilene and Texarkana.
Mid America League rosters include up to 40 players from NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, community college and junior college players, along with select players who may have exhausted their college eligibility but want to maintain their amateur playing status. Players stay with host families in their local market during the season.
To celebrate the new team, the Mid-America League will host a series in Fort Scott between the Texarkana Rhinos and the Joplin Outlaws on July 11th through 13th. Tickets for the series will go on sale on April 5 and will be available for purchase from the Joplin Outlaws team website.
