March kicks off tornado season in our four-state listening area, with the greatest likelihood of severe weather in the spring. USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey says the severe weather already seen this month might be a preview of what's to come.

Rippey says the average number of tornadoes across the country each year is just over 1200. The forecast for the remainder of spring favors an active storm track from the mid-South into the lower Midwest.
