A burn ban is now in effect for Elk County.

 

According to the Elk County Rural Fire Department, the ban went into place today, and no burning of any kind is allowed in the County until the ban is lifted.

 

Once the ban is lifted, anyone who wants to burn will need to call the Sheriff's office to get a burn number at no cost. If the fire department is called out to control a burn , a ticket will be given to the land owner or whoever started the fire if it was not called in first.

 

Again, no numbers will be given out until the current burn ban is lifted. The Elk County Sheriff's office number is 620-374-2108.
