South Coffeyville Examines Open Gym Policy

The South Coffeyville open gym policy is being examined.

At last night's South Coffeyville School Board meeting, board members held an open discussion regarding the open gym policy. South Coffeyville is one of the last remaining schools in the area to hold an open gym on Sunday afternoons for community members to use. Until recently, there was no written policy related to gym use, but that has since been developed and those using the gym will now be asked to sign a waiver. In addition, charging an admission fee was discussed. While no decision was made, board members agreed asking for donations would be a good idea to help with the cost of opening up the gym on weekend.

Superintendent Daryl Pruter says he has no problem with the open gym as long as the building is taken care of and people respect school property and each other.

In other business, the board heard the school financial audit report. The only thing found was a control deficiency related to activity fund receipts for a fundraiser. School staff will implement a new receipt policy and form as corrective action.

The board also accepted Math Teacher and Head Football Coach David Perkins' resignation following a cancer diagnosis.
