SW MO Sheriff's Deputies Rescue Dog and Human After Fall into Well

A southwest Missouri pet owner is happy to be back on solid ground after falling into a 30-foot-deep well while trying to retrieve their dog earlier this week.

On Tuesday afternoon, 9-1-1 dispatchers in Vernon County, MO, received a frantic call stating that a person and a dog had fallen into a well. Crews from Milo Rural Fire, Nevada Fire, Vernon County Ambulance and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. Joplin Fire was also requested to assist when authorities discovered the two victims were 30 feet down in the well. A confined-space rope rescue began, retrieving both human and dog from the well.

The pet owner was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for minor injuries and hypothermia.
