Fredonia City Commission Hears Good Financial News

The finances of the City of Fredonia are in relatively good shape.

That was the word at Wednesday's Fredonia City Commission meeting. Fredonia resident and retired CPA Ralph Hite has spent the past few months looking into the city's financial records. Hite told the commission that, while he had not conducted an audit of the city finances, that the numbers look good and that there is nothing that would suggest any financial wrongdoing. However, Hite also noted that there was a major discrepancy.

City Administrator Evan Bolt says this is just the first step in the process of reconciling the city's finances.

All three Fredonia city commissioners and Bolt thanked Hite for his work, which was done on a volunteer basis. Bolt said there would be a discussion of Hite's findings with the city's auditing firm at their next meeting in April.

In other business, commissioners gave their approval for a fireworks demonstration by Helm Fireworks to take place at West Park on Saturday night. Evan Bolt was also appointed to the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce Board as a non-voting member.

The next Fredonia City Commission meeting will be on March 19th.
