March is Kansas Agriculture Month, and this week is also Ag Safety Awareness Week.

 

K-State Research and Extension Wildcat District Diversified Ag Agent Adaven Rohling says grain bins are among the leading causes of accidents and deaths in the ag industry.

 

Rohling says it's important to turn off all equipment before entering a bin and advises using a tag-out system for extra safety. She also says training should be a continuous process, especially if you're planning on hiring seasonal workers.

 

Rohling says it's also a good idea to develop a rescue plan for your operation in case something were to happen.
