Mother of Kansas Murder Victim Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The mother of one of two Hugoton women found murdered in Oklahoma last year has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the five people accused of her murder.

Amanda Butler Verner filed the lawsuit on Monday and seeks damages for wrongful death, medical and burial expenses, mental pain and anguish, and grief and loss of companionship. Verner is the mother of Veronica Butler who, along with Jillian Kelley, disappeared on March 30 last year after the two left their homes in Hugoton to travel to Oklahoma to pick up Butler's children. The bodies of the two women were found two weeks later buried in a freezer in the Oklahoma panhandle.

Five people have been charged in the case: Cole and Cora Twombly, Tifany Adams, Paul Grice, and Tad Cullum. Grice and Cora Twombly have entered plea deals in the case.
