February tax collections for the State of Kansas are well above estimates.
That was the report made yesterday by Governor Laura Kelly. Total tax receipts last month were $548.2 million. That total is more than $120 million above estimates and showed a 5% increase from this time last year.
Collections from individual income taxes were up by a considerable amount. Those numbers exceeded estimates by 166% while corporate tax collections fell by nearly 19% as compared to February 2024.
Combined retail sales taxes were down slightly from a year ago.
Governor Kelly called the report good news for the fiscal health of the state and the health of the economy, but advised that lawmakers must maintain fiscal responsibility to ensure prosperity for the people of the state.
