KCC to Hold Virtual Public Hearing This Week on Proposed Evergy Plants

The Kansas Corporation Commission will hold a virtual public hearing on Wednesday to give Evergy customers an opportunity to learn more about the company's request to build three new facilities in the state.

Evergy has announced plans to construct one gas-fired plant near the company's Viola Substation in Sumner County and another near Hutchinson in Reno County. Evergy also wants to build the Kansas Sky solar facility in Douglas County. The company has also asked the K-C-C to approve the way in which these costs will be recovered from customers.

The K-C-C will also hear public comments on the issue during Wednesday's event. Those who wish to comment during the hearing can do so via Zoom and must register to do so by noon tomorrow. The hearing can also be watched via the K-C-C's YouTube channel, which does not require registration.

The Commission will also accept written comments on the issue through April 7. The K-C-C is expected to issue a decision by early July.

To register for the Zoom meeting to be able to make comments, go here. Then click on the “Your Opinion Matters” tab. You must register before noon on March 4 to comment.
