Three SEK Communities to Receive State Funds for Housing Development

Three southeast Kansas communities – Chanute, Parsons, and Caney – are set to receive funding from the Kansas Housing Corporation to construct moderate income housing in rural Kansas.

Caney will receive around $290,000 to convert 18 units at the Caney Nursing Home, while Chanute has been awarded $650,000 to construct 7 duplex homes and 6 tri-plex homes. Parsons will receive $96,000 for the construction of three single-family homes in the Partridge Addition. Parsons and Chanute will also receive Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits for the projects.

Twelve other cities across the state will also receive funding for housing projects that will total more than $8 million and provide a net gain of 229 affordable, quality housing units.

The awards are made possible through the state of Kansas’ Moderate Income Housing, Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credit, and Revolving Loan Funds Programs, to provide resources to develop housing in rural communities.
