Alabama Woman Arrested in NW Arkansas for Allegedly Trying to Sell Child

A 20-year-old Alabama woman faces charges for allegedly trying to sell a child in northwest Arkansas.

Amber Booth is accused of accepting compensation for adoption after accepting clothes and cash in exchange for her baby in November 2024. The charge is a Class C felony. Following her arrest, police say Booth told them she thought the woman who took the child agreed to a temporary arrangement, but later admitted to receiving several off-brand clothing items and $50 in cash for the child. She also stated that she signed an agreement to allow the woman to have temporary custody.

A guardianship case was opened in Washington County, Arkansas, on Monday in which the woman and her husband requested emergency custody of the child. On Wednesday, Booth's brother and sister-in-law, also filed for guardianship on the grounds that it would be better for the child to be in the care of family.

The guardianship case is set to be heard in court on Wednesday. Booth is expected to be in court to face her charges on March 19.
