The Independence City Commission approves a new master park plan that would improve accessibility and add amenities to Riverside Park and three other neighborhood parks in the city.
The plan was presented by Doug Pickert of Indigo Designs at last night's city commission meeting. Park staff and members of the park board have been working with the design firm for the past year to develop the new plan. Pickert says one of the big changes to Riverside Park would be a new piece of large equipment on the main playground.
The plan would also update and add amenities to parks at South 10th and Edison, Coffeyville and Wald, and 19th and Poplar. The total estimated cost of the project would be just over $3 million. Commissioner Dean Hayse says he thinks the updates would be a positive thing for the community.
The commission approved the new plan, though no timeline was given for the improvements.
