Chanute Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire

Chanute fire crews respond to an early morning structure fire in rural Neosho County.

The call came around 5am on Tuesday morning when the Chanute Fire Department was called to the 7600 block of 130th Road for reports of a structure fire. When crews arrived, they found an attached garage fully engulfed in flames with the fire extending into the residence. Crews began to aggressively attack the blaze when conditions worsened and the roof collapsed. A call for additional help was made to all off-duty fire personnel and the Thayer Fire Department. With the help of the additional firefighters, the blaze was eventually brought under control.

All of the home's occupants were able to safely escape the fire, though it is believed that one of the family's cats perished in the blaze.
