Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are in Kansas this week, looking into a weekend explosion at a commercial building in the City of Hutchinson.
The explosion occurred on Saturday when a natural gas pipeline in downtown Hutchinson failed, causing a gas leak and eventual explosion. No one was injured in the incident, but investigators want to know why it occurred.
On Tuesday, N-T-S-B agents oversaw the extraction and securement of the failed pipe. The pipe will be shipped to Washington D.C. To the N-T-S-B materials lab for examination.
The N-T-S-B has made no public comment on the investigation, but a full report on the incident is expected within 12 to 24 months.
