An Independence man is arrested in connection to a July 2024 shooting.
26-year-old Charles Deffebaugh was taken into custody yesterday on multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault. The Montgomery County Attorney's Office first filed formal charges in the case on August 19, but sealed the case until Deffebaugh's arrest.
Court documents indicated that during the incident, Deffebaugh allegedly fired a gun at a man with the intention of killing him. The victim in the case was wounded and taken to a local hospital. Deffebaugh is also accused of firing his weapon at an occupied vehicle. The occupant of that vehicle was unharmed in the incident.
Deffebaugh is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail in Independence on a $250,000 bond. His next court date is set for March 11.
