Cherryvale Housing: Out with Old, In With New

The condemnation process has started on three more houses in Cherryvale.

At last night's Cherryvale City Council Meeting, three structures were deemed unfit for human habitation, including 722 E 3rd St, 135 W Whelan St. and 210 E Main St. Fire Chief Joe Rexwinkle says many of these houses pose a danger to the community.

The city has been working on tearing down several unsafe houses each year and last night's action was an initial step in the process.

In other business, the council denied a cereal malt beverage license for Snak Atak on W 6th after Police Chief Jimmy Holt cited evidence of problems other municipalities have run into with other stores allegedly operated by the same owner.

The council also discussed the possible development of some properties in the land bank with Shane Harris of Diamond Property Management. Harris is interested in building some 1,300-square-foot houses costing about $110 to $125 a square foot. The Council agreed that a bid should be written as the project is explored further.
