An Independence man faces a charge of felony child endangerment in Washington County, OK, after allegedly driving under the influence with a child in the car.
43-year-old David Elliott was charged yesterday with driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and child endangerment by driving under the influence and transporting an opened container of an intoxicating beverage in a Bartlesville courtroom.
The incident occurred on February 22 as Elliott was allegedly driving on the southbound lanes of US-75. An officer from the Caney Police Department attempted to pull Elliott over for a traffic infraction. According to police, Elliott did not pull over until he had crossed the state line into Oklahoma, prompting the officer to contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office. A breath test administered by the deputy then allegedly showed Elliott was three times over the legal limit.
During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly found an open bottle of alcohol, several empty single-serve alcohol containers, and a minor child in the backseat.
Elliott will appear in court again on March 7. His bond is set at $20,000.
