Fort Scott Woman Leads Police on Cross-County Car Chase

A Fort Scott woman is in custody after leading police on a car chase that spanned multiple counties.

29-year-old Taran Lapiere was taken into custody yesterday after leading police on a chase that involved two different vehicles, two counties, and a game warden. The chase began in Neosho County on Sunday as troopers from the Kansas Highway Patrol began chasing a vehicle that refused to pull over for a traffic stop near 60th and Trego Road or about 4 miles south of the City of St. Paul. The chase continued into Crawford County where troopers followed the fleeing car into a field and across a creek before the suspect crashed the vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot and allegedly stole a U-T-V and continued to flee.

Deputies located the suspect in the area of South 20th Street and West 560th Avenue and tried to convince the woman to stop, but she continued to flee until the U-T-V became disabled. The suspect fled once again on foot. She was eventually located by K-H-P troopers and a game warden from Kansas Wildlife and Parks.

Lapiere was treated for injuries sustained in the crash at Labette Health in Parsons following her arrest.
