Inmate at Sedgwick County Jail Dies in Custody

 

An inmate at the Sedgwick County Jail in Wichita has died.

 

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office states that a 43-year-old inmate at the jail has died following what authorities say was a suicide attempt. The male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell just before 7pm on Tuesday. On-site medical staff attempted life-saving measures on the man until EMS arrived to take the victim to a local hospital. The man was pronounced deceased thirty minutes later.

 

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the death

 

The Sheriff's Office stated that the man had been at the jail less than 24 hours and that he was in custody on charges related to aggravated assault and interference with law enforcement.

 

This is the second death at the Sedgwick County Jail since January 1st.
