A Wichita man is sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for the death of a man whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car last year.
24-year-old Daitrez Birch was sentenced on Tuesday for the killing of Kyce Barnes. Barnes was found deceased in the trunk of a car in a vacant lot on the west side of Wichita last August. Birch entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder, aggravated battery and desecration of remains in December.
Two other people were charged with helping Birch conceal the crime. One of those defendants pleaded guilty and was sentenced last week to a year of probation. The other is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in April.
