Animal Safety Tips for Freezing Temperatures

Record low temperatures continue through the remainder of the week, and it's important to keep your furry friends and their best interests in mind.

There are numerous factors that determine how well animals can handle cold temperatures, including age, health, regular exposure, and more. However, in temperatures this frigid, no animals should be left outdoors unless they have access to a well-insulated structure.

For trips outside or walks, consider shortening the distance and time, and look for opportunities to help pets stay active and exercising indoors. It's also important to consult your vet on if your pet could use any additional layers when making trips outdoors.

Finally, it's crucial to be prepared in the event of an emergency. With risks of power outage or loss of heat, make sure you have a pet care kit available in the event you need to leave quickly. Nobody enjoys sub-zero temperatures, but with the proper precautions, your furry friend will be healthy and happy come the spring weather.
