Extreme Cold Warning Continues for Area Through Noon Tomorrow

 

The National Weather Service in Wichita extends the Extreme Cold Warning for southeast Kansas through noon tomorrow.

 

Highs today and tomorrow are expected to be in the low to middle teens with overnight lows dipping below zero. Blustery winds will cause wind chill factors as low as minus 25 degrees. Such conditions can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Early symptoms of frostbite include pain numbness and skin discoloration. Extremities including fingers, toes, nose, and ears are most commonly affected. If you begin to experience frostbite symptoms, move to a warm area and immerse the affected areas in warm water. More severe cases may require medical attention.

 

For those venturing outside, dress in layers, wear and hat, face mask and gloves.

 

Warming Centers are available in the area including Touch of Life - 501 E 9th St – Coffeyville, 1st United Methodist Church - Wesley Center - 200 S Penn – in Independence - No Pets allowed. Those with pets can warm up at the Independence City Hall - 811 W Laurel – with pets on leashes/in cages allowed, and at B The Light Mission 219 N. Virginia Ave., in Bartlesville
