ICC Trustees Ask for More Information to Finance Welding Program

Independence Community College puts the possible welding program at the school on pause.

The ICC Board of Trustees agreed last night to wait another month before making a decision on the new program. The trustees heard a presentation by Project Manager Sean Clapp with Echelon Arch and Design. Clapp presented a mock-up of the proposed building that would house the welding program. The board then discussed the money that would be required to fund the program. President Dr. Jonathan Sadhoo, says told the Board that construction costs would be around $1.7 million. He says the school hopes to pay for much of that with grant funding.

Sadhoo told the Board that the cost to the school's budget would be around $1 million. Trustee Mark Lasater says he would like to see a better break-down of the numbers.

There was also concern among Trustees that federal grant funding might be less available due to actions taken by the federal government. The Board will revisit the issue in March.
