As a major winter storm moves through the area, local communities prepare for the weather.
City crews in Coffeyville are ready to begin clearing snow from city streets as anywhere from 5 to 12 inches of accumulation is predicted. The Public Works Department in Independence says it has been preparing for this storm for the past week and has sand and salt ready to treat city streets.
The City of Neodesha reminds citizens that clearing large amounts of snow takes time and asks that residents be patient as city employees begin the work of clearing streets. The City of Cherryvale asks that residents give street crews, snowplows and trucks the right of way to do their work, and allow plenty of room between your vehicle and snow equipment.
