One man is dead and another seriously injured after a head-on collision Saturday night in Reno County.

The accident happened on K-61 about 20 miles southwest of Hutchinson around 7:30 Saturday night. A 2024 Ford F-150 driven by 68-year-old Martin McLaughlin of Romulus, Michigan, was traveling southbound on K-61 when it collided with a Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by 44-year-old Ryan Purchase of Ludington, Michigan. The big rig left the roadway and came to rest in the ditch while the pickup truck became fully engulfed in flames. McLaughlin was pronounced dead at the scene while Purchase was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
