The death of a 17-year-old boy at a state facility in November has been ruled an accidental overdose.
The boy died on November 5 at the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City. Staff at the facility reported that he had gone to bed the previous evening and been found unresponsive in his room the next morning. The teen had been living at the facility since August.
The final autopsy results indicated that the boy's death was caused by intoxication of a combination of drugs all of which had been prescribed to him. Obesity, asthma, and an enlarged heart were listed as contributing factors in his death. The manner of death was listed as accidental.
The Kansas State Child Death Review Board reviews all child fatalities that occur in Kansas, and will evaluate this case.
