Allen County Sheriff's Office Investigates Two Weather-Related Crashes

The Allen County Sheriff's Office is investigating two weather-related crashes that occurred yesterday morning.

The first accident occurred around 6am just south of Iola on Old US Highway 169. The driver of a 2000 Jeep Wrangler lost control on an icy bridge, and his vehicle overturned. The 28-year-old driver told officers that wearing his seat belt kept him from being injured and possibly saved his life.

The second accident occurred around 7:30am when deputies responded to reports of a two-vehicle accident on the US-169 overpass at the junction with US-54 just east of Iola. Another driver lost control of their vehicle on the icy overpass and was struck by another car. Both drivers were injured and one was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Allen County Sheriff Anthony Maness stated that drivers should always be cautious, especially on bridges or other elevated roadways, when roadway conditions are wet and temperatures are near freezing.
