The Quapaw Nation Marshals Service reports that human remains have been discovered near the former city of Cardin, OK.
Investigators from the Marshals along with agents from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office, and other Tribal investigators were called to the former town in Ottawa County last week to process the scene.
The remains are believed to be those of an adult male and were discovered by two people who were walking alongside a roadway near a lagoon. Authorities say the remains appear to have been in the area for quite some time and foul play is suspected in the case.
Cardin is located in the Tar Creek Superfund site and has had no residents living there since 2010. Another set of human remains was discovered in Cardin in 2018. That case remains unsolved and the majority of the town has been fenced off since that investigation.
