Two missing Linn County children are found in a frozen lake.
Last week, the Linn County Sheriff's Office responded to the Lake Chaparral Community for a report of two missing children. The Linn County Fire Department also responded to the area and assisted in the search for the two children. The two missing boys, an eight and a nine year old, had told their parents that they were going to the others house. A deputy discovered a bicycle on top of the ice of lake De Lago. The Sheriff's Office utilized an aerial drone to search above the water and it was at that time the Overland Park Police dive team and the Kansas Wildlife and Parks underwater drone unit were called for assistance.
A citizen contacted the Sheriff's Office after discovering two holes in the ice across the lake from where the first responders were searching. The two boys were discovered in that area. The scene was held until the Overland Park Police Dive Team could retrieve the two boys from the icy water. The Sheriff's Office areal drone team were able to observe several tracks on the ice which led investigators to believe that the two boys were on the ice at the location of the bicycle and that while walking across the lake they fell through the ice. Even though the official corners report has not been completed this incident is believed to be an accident.
