Several area communities will receive funding from the state for community improvements via the Community Development Block Grant or C-D-B-G program.
The City of Sedan will receive $145,000 that will be used on a community senior center, storm shelters and city parks and libraries. The City of Bartlett in Labette County has been awarded $47,000 to create a youth summer internship program for the building trades initiative at Coffeyville Community College, while the City of Olpe will receive $650,000 for community centers, and improvements to the library and to city parks.
The C-D-B-G program comes through the Kansas Department of Commerce and its Quality Places Division and is a federal grant program that provides funding for projects in rural communities that might otherwise not be constructed. The cities must also provide a percentage of matching funds for the projects.
