The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. last night; the plane traveling from Wichita attempted to land and collided in midair with the Black Hawk helicopter.

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy says nothing was out of the oridnary in the moments leading up to the crash.

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu says the tragedy affects not just those in Wichita, but many people across the United States and the world.

Wu says south-central Kansas and D.C.are forever linked.

Wichita officials will hold a prayer vigil at City Hall this afternoon and the public is invited to attend.
