Independence Man Honored for Volunteer Work with Boy Scouts

An Independence man is being honored for his volunteer work with Scouting America.

Bill Carson has been named as a recipient of the 2024 Silver Beaver Award from Scouting America through the Quivira Council located in Wichita. The Silver Beaver Award is presented to adult volunteers who have provided distinguished service and leadership in the organization. Carson began his volunteer work with Scouts more than 13 years ago when his son signed up for Cub Scouts. He says he didn't expect the award.

Carson has served as a leader with Boy Scout Troop 4 and Cub Scout Pack 4 in Independence for more than a decade and has also served as a shooting sports instructor for scouts in southeast Kansas. He says the most rewarding part of his volunteer work is Scouting's impact on its youth.

Another Independence Scout leader David Morrow will also be presented with the Silver Beaver Award. Both men will be presented with their awards on February 8th at the 2025 Quivira Council Annual Recognition Banquet in Wichita.
