Improvements Planned for Downtown Indy Sidewalks

Improvements are in the works for sidewalk crossings at an intersection in downtown Independence.

The pedestrian crossing areas at the corner of Penn and Chestnut Street have been the subject of some recent complaints by city residents. City Engineer John Garris says the way the curb cuts were originally built can make it difficult for pedestrians to navigate.

Garris says the planned changes will improve the crossings while remaining in compliance with the law.

The project is currently in the early planning stages. Construction will likely take place sometime this summer.
