Joplin Man Sentenced For Role in Homicide

A Joplin man is sentenced to federal prison for his role in a 2020 kidnapping and homicide.

52-year-old Freddie Lewis Tilton was sentenced to life in a federal prison without parole for his role in the crime. Tilton pleaded guilty in September 2023 to his role in the kidnapping conspiracy that ended with the victim, 41-year-old James Hall, being tortured and shot. The charges also included two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. In addition to the life sentence, the judge in the case also imposed two 10-year prison terms to be served concurrently.

In another case involving a second victim, Tilton was found guilty at trial last September of kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and stalking. He received a sentence of two 30-year terms in prison and one 10-year term for those crimes.

Five other people also pleaded guilty and have been sentenced in the Hall case.
