Suspect Shot By Highway Patrol Dies in Hospital

 

A suspect who was shot by a Kansas highway Patrol Trooper over the weekend has died from his injuries.

 

36-year-old Bryson McCray of St. Joseph, MO, was shot during a hostage standoff in Atchison early Saturday morning. Police were initially called to an apartment complex on Friday evening after reports of an armed individual attempting to break into a residence. When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect shot at them and then fled into an occupied home.

 

The suspect, who was identified as Bryson McCray, held a female hostage inside the home for several hours and fired his weapon at police multiple times during the incident. When police made an attempt to rescue the hostage, McCray was shot by a K-H-P Trooper and taken to a hospital in critical condition. The hostage was safely rescued.

 

McCray eventually died from his wounds early yesterday morning.

 

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting,
