The Kansas Kansas Highway Patrol chases a murder suspect in Anderson County and the chase ends in a fatal car crash.
The incident occurred Saturday evening when troopers located a stolen Ford Focus traveling eastbound on US-54 in Kiowa County. Authorities sought the driver of the vehicle in connection to a homicide investigation in Anderson County. A trooper pull the vehicle over for a traffic stop and the driver – later identified as Jerry Wayne Thompson - then fled.
After the Kiowa County Sheriff's Office deployed stop sticks, the Focus left the roadway, driving into a ditch and then a field. The car then went airborne and rolled. Thompson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car during the crash. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. K-H-P is investigating the crash.
The homicide remains under investigation by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
