An incident on Thursday evening in Wichita leads police to shoot and kill suspect.
Around 9pm that night, Wichita Police received a call that a man with a gun had broken into a residence and attempted to shoot a male in the home. The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Devario Edwards of Wichita. Edwards had bonded out of jail on domestic violence charges earlier that same day. After, fleeing the scene, Edwards then began a Facebook livestream where he stated he was armed with a rifle and was headed to Spirit Aerosystems.
Officers from W-P-D and the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department intercepted Edwards and chased him as he fled in his vehicle. Edwards then stopped, left his vehicle and fired at officers. Po0lice then returned fire, striking and killing Edwards.
The preliminary investigation indicated that during the incident two police vehicles were struck by gunfire. Edwards fired over 20 rounds at police. A total of eight law enforcement officers fired over 100 rounds. No police were injured in the exchange.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the incident. Agents will turn their findings over to the Sedgwick County Attorney's Office when the investigation concludes.
