The Independence City Commission makes some minor changes to time-limited parking in the downtown area.
At the most recent meeting, Commissioners heard a complaint from a local business owner about the lack of adequate parking along Main Street near the intersection with Penn Avenue. The Commission voted unanimously to add a twenty-minute parking space in the 100 block of East Main and to change all 15-minute spaces to 20-minute spaces for consistency. Commissioners also approved nearly $200,000 for the Independence Fire Department to purchase a new tanker truck, and also heard updates on the Independence Land Bank and on various Public Works projects around the city, including work to be done on the pedestrian crossings downtown at Penn and Chestnut Streets.
Independence Police Chief Dustin Stafford was present for the swearing-in of the city’s newest police officer Jacob Smith.
The next Independence City Commission meeting will be on February 13.
