A Thursday morning traffic stop in Parsons leads to a search warrant and the arrest of multiple people on drug charges.
On Thursday around 1am, a P-P-D officer made a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Thornton Avenue. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia in the possession of a passenger in the car 57-year-old Karen Diane Murphy. Murphy was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Further investigation by Parsons Police revealed the origin of the material found in Murphy’s possession. Authorities obtained and served a search warrant on a residence on South 16th Street and uncovered pills, methamphetamine, marijuana, and other drug-related items. 55-year-old Lisa Stover attempted to flee the scene but was quickly arrested. She faces multiple charges including possession of narcotics and escape from custody. 53-year-old Larry McQuarie Jr. was also arrested on multiple charges of possession and distribution of a controlled substance. A third individual at the residence was released at the scene.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks called the arrests a demonstration of P-P-D’s commitment to tackling drug activity in the community.
The investigation is ongoing.
